Adissan

Ancient Origins and Roman Influence

Adissan's history traces back to antiquity, with evidence suggesting Roman influence. The village may have derived its name from a wealthy Roman property owner who established a villa south of the present-day settlement. Archaeological excavations have uncovered remnants of vineyards, large winemaking facilities, and significant wine storage areas, including bunches of Clairette grapes preserved in a well, indicating early viticulture 48. The Romans are credited with introducing the Clairette grape variety, which remains central to Adissan's identity today 4.
