Early Settlements
The area around Colombières-sur-Orb has prehistoric significance, with traces of troglodytes (cave dwellers) found in the Gorges de Colombières, part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Park . This suggests human habitation dating back thousands of years.
Medieval Era
The village is home to the Donjon de Colombières-sur-Orb, a 14th-century tower that is the last remnant of the Château de Caroz. This castle was originally built in 1036 and was associated with the Viscounts of Carcassonne.
The tower, now privately owned and classified as a historic monument underwent restoration work in 2014.
Despite the village’s name (Colombières-sur-Orb), the nearby Gorges de Colombières are actually carved by the Arles stream, not the Orb River. Visitors often joke that the town missed its chance to be called "Colombières-sur-Arles" but stuck with the fancier-sounding name anyway
