Cazouls-d'Hérault

Ancient and Medieval Origins

Templar Commandery:

Founded in the 12th century, Cazouls-d'Hérault was initially under the joint jurisdiction of the Bishops of Béziers and Agde. Around 1150, the Bishop of Béziers ceded the Church of Saint-Pierre to the Knights Templar, who established a commandery here. After the Templars' dissolution in 1312, the property passed to the Knights Hospitaller.

Feudal Defenses:

The village retains traces of its medieval past, including feudal walls and the Church of Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul, notable for its crenelated terrace and sundial. The rue des Templiers (Templars' Street) still echoes this era
