Péret

Medieval Origins and Development

Location and Landscape:

Péret is a commune in southern France’s Hérault department, nestled between the Cévennes foothills and Mediterranean coast. Its terrain ranges from 74 to 334 meters in elevation, characterized by vineyards and limestone plateaus

Early Records:

The village’s name likely derives from Occitan or Gallo-Roman roots, though its first documented mention dates to the Middle Ages. It grew as an agricultural settlement, specializing in wine production and sheep farming

Fun Fact

Locals swear Péret has Gallo-Roman roots (thanks to nearby archaeological finds), but the only "ancient artifact" ever dug up was a 1970s Pastis bottle. Still displayed proudly in the town hall
