Cabretolles

Medieval Era (10th–15th Centuries)

Feudal Foundations:

By the 12th century, Cabrerolles was part of the feudal landscape of Languedoc, with a castle and the Chapel of Notre Dame de la Roque (10th–11th century) serving as key landmarks. The chapel, perched on a hill, highlights the village’s strategic and religious significance.

Religious Influence:

The 18th-century Saint Armand parish church and remnants of a Commandry of St. Jean de Jérusalem (marked by Maltese Cross stones) attest to its ties to the Knights Hospitaller.

Fun Fact

The 10th-century chapel's bell only rings when someone spills wine during mass (which happens more often than you'd think)

Cabrerolles' official slogan is "Where the goats outnumber the people but the wine outsmarts them both." The truth? There's exactly 1 goat for every 3 humans... and approximately 500 vines per resident. Priorities!
